Our Story

We are Sandra and Dominik, a couple from Germany who decided to live in Toronto, ON. Sandra is an elementary school teacher, and Dominik works for the railroad. The idea for our book came when a good friend was about to leave the country. Dominik wanted to create lasting memories of the great time here in Toronto before his friend was about to leave. We thought about a special kind of book that always accompanied us in our childhood, especially during our elementary school days - a book of best friends. We still revel in the memories of our school and childhood friendships. The best moments together, the things that moved us and our friends back then - be it hobbies, favorite music, or shared experiences - we can still read about all of this in our books of friends today. From experience, Sandra knows that those books still play a central role in German classrooms and that children love them! When we were looking for such a book, we realized that there were no comparable books available here. So it was clear to us that we had to bring such a great book to Canada, to give local children an experience like the one we knew from home.

Our friend Carl played a major role in the development of the book. Carl, originally from the Philippines, grew up and studied design in Winnipeg, MB. When Carl heard about the idea of making the book, he immediately wanted to create a suitable, child-friendly design for the book.
